Abstract:

This is the first volume of the new book series Philosophy of Education – Debates and Constellations, published by Brill and Mentis. This volume discusses some of the most important contemporary challenges and critiques of the paradigm of liberal democratic education.
It has often been noted in recent times that liberal democracies are currently facing a serious political crisis. A common reaction to these challenges to the hegemony of liberal democracy is to call for more `liberal democratic education´ as a remedy, for instance, by cultivating capacities, dispositions and virtues that may contribute to a flourishing democracy and democratic culture. This volume discusses some of the most important contemporary challenges and critiques of the paradigm of liberal democratic education.
